Addiction is sometimes accompanied by dishonesty, manipulation, omissions and cover-ups. Being blameless with one`s own language means that they say what they want to say and that they want to say what they say. This can increase an individual`s self-esteem and improve their relationships with others who may be harmed by an addiction. Don`t take anything personally – addiction can be isolating and fuel self-centered thoughts and feelings of guilt, shame, or anger. The needs of loved ones may resemble attacks on their own well-being, and the person who is an addiction may interpret their concerns as personal attacks. In recovery, learning to possess feelings and take responsibility for one`s behavior can build self-confidence.
